Blue Vervain

November’s Happy Plant of the Month:

All about Blue vervain (Verbena hastata)

“An embodiment remedy” -Patrick Kaminski & Richard katz

Dear Blue Vervain,

I am sorry for taking all month to finally give you the credit you deserve. November has been kicking my booty and Blue Vervain has been there supporting me through it all. I haven’t been able to find the headspace to finally sing praises for this plant. But I’m here now.

She’s one beautiful way to support the nervous system, especially during these holiday months. Politics causing you anxiety? Blue Vervain. Grief hitting you heavy? Blue Vervain. Feeling stagnant in your mindbodyspiti? Blue Vervain. Trying to navigate getting out of perfectionistic tendencies? Blue Vervain. What CAN’T she do, am I right?

The Physical

  • Bitter - stimulating effect on digestion

  • Antispasmodic, relaxes over contraction of muscles

  • Specific effect on spasms in neck and shoulders

  • Relaxes tension in the body brought on from stress

  • Affinity for female reproductive system

  • Can stimulate menses, relieve menstrual cramping, and settle PMS

  • Can increase milk production in the mammary glands

  • Great remedy for hot flashes in menopausal women

The Spiritual

  • One of the most magical plants

  • Uplifts in a way that is well suited for those dealing with melancholy

  • Brings the vital force down

  • Eases tension and stress in the body

  • Helps bring down perfectionism

  • Deep affinity for the Crown Chakra

Best ways to use Blue vervain

  • Tincture (anywhere from 1-3 drops to 1tsp) - be careful with dosing as it is VERY bitter (too much can cause nausea and/or vomiting)

  • Infusion (tea) - again very bitter so be mindful

Vervain is particularly an embodiment remedy, helping the soul to center and grind its tremendous enthusiasm. In this way, the body becomes a natural regulator and harmonizer for the abundant spiritual forces which pour out of such a person.... Such soul ardor is able to inspire, lead, and heal others.
— Patricia Kaminski and Richard Katz

Have you ever used Blue Vervain? How have they shown up for you? What would you like to learn more about this beautiful plant?
